HOW WE COUNT The ranking comes from the subtitles of films and TV shows in European Portuguese (624,282,899 words in total). "Recognise 77%" means the words you've learned account for 77% of all the words in that dialogue, counting every repeat. Recognising the words isn't the same as understanding every sentence — but it's the biggest head start you can get. A word counts once you've recalled it correctly and its next review is at least a day away; forget it and it stops counting until you get it back.
