I made Taco Rain for my own kids, after a song about tacos falling from the sky got stuck in all of our heads. A catching game with one rule: catch the falling tacos, and dodge the bombs. Slide the basket along the bottom of the screen, fill it with tacos, and keep the bombs out. A round lasts 60 seconds, or until you drop three. HOW IT PLAYS • Drag anywhere to steer the basket • Tacos are 10 points; burritos are 50 and rare • Catching a bomb costs you a miss, so get out of the way • Every 5 catches in a row steps your multiplier up, to a maximum of 5x FIFTY LEVELS, FIVE WORLDS, FIVE STORMS Beat a level's target score to unlock the next one. Nothing else opens a level. • Taco Town — the first ten, each faster and busier than the last • Deep Fryer — burritos everywhere, and each one is worth five tacos • Dry Season — the power-ups thin out, and then stop coming at all • The Minefield — the sky fills with bombs, and with the tools to survive them • The Feast — all of it at once Endless has no clock and no target, just a climb until you drop three. Clear a world's last level and its storm opens, a finale where the weather joins in. Awnings bounce tacos, puffy tacos pop in two, gusts push everything sideways, bombs float down on balloons, and a piñata spills tacos. Everything a storm throws is a bonus, so dropping it costs nothing. Clear Taco Town and Burrito Hail opens: one minute of fast burrito bursts from a rumbling cloud, with a few bombs to dodge. NIMBO'S STORYBOOK Why do tacos fall from the sky? Nimbo, a little cloud who learned to cook, tells the story in a picture book that opens between rounds, never during one. THE TACO COOKBOOK Now and then an ingredient falls. Catch them to fill your pantry and cook eighteen taco recipes, a chapter for each world. Nothing gets used up, missing one costs nothing, and they never touch your score. A SOUNDTRACK OF ITS OWN Every world has its own tune. It plays alongside your own music, and Music has its own switch in Settings. A NEW ROUND EVERY DAY Today's Challenge gives everyone the same level and the same falling tacos. Play it as often as you like. There is no streak to keep up, so missing a day costs nothing. POWER-UPS YOU CATCH Magnet, slow-mo, wide plate, speed boost and a shield that blocks your next miss. They fall like everything else, so you get them by playing, with nothing to buy and nothing to watch. BADGES, AND BASKETS TO GO WITH THEM Twenty-six badges: your first catch, a streak of 25, a flawless round, one for clearing each world, three for the storms, two for Burrito Hail, three for the cookbook, two for reading the storybook, and one for each season. Ten of them unlock a basket, from Salsa and Guacamole to the Piñata for clearing all fifty levels and the Mole for finishing the cookbook. TWO SEASONS A YEAR Halloween Night, 17 October to 2 November: the daily challenge moves under a big moon, tacos wear witch hats and the bombs become grumpy rotten pumpkins. Snow Fiesta, 1 December to 6 January: knit hats, burritos wrapped like presents and grumpy lumps of coal under falling snow. Catch 10 tacos in either and its basket is yours for good. MADE TO BE PLAYED BY ANYONE Gentler play widens the basket and slows the tacos down for younger players, with its scores kept separately. Reduce motion settles the drifting clouds, and every screen follows your device's text size. BUILT FOR A SHORT SESSION One thumb, and no tutorial to sit through. Pause any time; a phone call will not cost you your round. Plays the same on an iPhone or an iPad, in twelve languages. NOTHING TO BUY No in-app purchases, no coins, no shop, no rewarded videos and no sign-up. The game is free and supported by a small banner outside of gameplay, never over the playfield. Settings has an optional button that plays an ad if you feel like helping out; it unlocks nothing, and skipping it costs nothing. Your scores, badges, storybook and cookbook stay on your device. There is no account.
