Nobody knows who built this road, or why. It only goes one way: out of the desert, across the prairie, through a city, along a coast, and up a mountain. It has a great many signs, no checkpoints, and a camel that wanders into the lane. Why anyone would run it is an open question. People do. It takes 72 hours of running to reach the top, where one last sign waits. A dry narrator watches from the shoulder and has opinions. The 72: Still Not There is a very boring game about getting somewhere very slowly. Stop for long enough and the road takes progress back, all the way to the start. Finishing usually takes months. TWO WAYS TO RUN Legs: walk or run with your phone. Motion & Fitness counts your steps in 5-minute blocks, and walking and running both count. Your steps stay on your phone. If the app was closed, it catches up when you reopen it, up to 7 days back. Finger: hold a finger on the screen while the app is open. A minute counts if you hold through all of it. Every few minutes a camel steps into the road. Swipe it away within 20 seconds, or it counts as a stop. No steps needed. On iPad, Finger is the only mode. WHEN YOU STOP Stopping is fine, and nothing happens right away. Your runner can stand still for 6 hours in Legs and 8 in Finger. After that it drifts back, about 1 minute of progress per hour. Stay still for 48 hours straight and the slide picks up, to about 10 minutes per hour. Start moving and it stops. It never goes below the starting line, and at the top you stay. REST IS BUILT IN After 4 hours of movement in a day, the game stops counting and suggests a break. The default is "Go rest." Choose "Continue running" and counting picks up again for that day. Rest when you need to. OPTIONAL ITEMS The app is free to download. Items are for sick days, trips, and weeks that get away from you. You never need one to finish. - Delay Card: stop for up to 24 hours without sliding back. Available singly or in a pack of five. - 7-Day Pause: freezes progress for 7 days. Up to 2 pauses in any 30 days. - Runner Skin Pack: six more outfits to mix by part, and a second road sign style. Looks only. Delay Cards and pauses are used up, and Apple's Restore Purchases does not cover them. They are kept on our server under your anonymous player ID, and can't be recovered if that ID is deleted. The Runner Skin Pack comes back with Restore Purchases. PURIST RUNS Prefer to skip all of it? Start a Purist run. Items are off for good, and finishers get a Purist mark in the Hall of Fame. LEADERBOARDS AND FRIENDS Each mode has its own Progress board, Drifted back board, and Hall of Fame for runners who reach the top. Finishers can pick one name for the Hall of Fame. It is public and can't be changed, so please don't use your real name. Names are checked by our server, and you can report one that doesn't belong. An optional Friends tab uses Game Center to show rankings among your friends there. ALONG THE WAY At the top there is a finish screen and a certificate you can share. It has no personal information. Each of the five scenes has a postcard. It unlocks when you reach the scene, and fades if you drift back before it. An original tune plays only while the app is open and you are running. It stays quiet if your own music is on, and Settings can turn it off. Legs runs can show on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island, with the time of the latest update. Landscape works too. THE NARRATOR A deadpan narrator keeps you company. It teases the road and the game, never you. Set the roast level to Chill, Normal, or No Mercy in Settings. Rest and pause days stay kind at every level. Also in Simplified Chinese. PRIVACY No account, no email, no real name. Progress syncs to our server under an anonymous player ID. Steps stay on your phone. No ads, no tracking. The 72 is not a medical device or a fitness program. It's a game. At the top there is a sign. That's it.
