Tonograph: Guitar Tab Editor

Tonograph is a tablature editor for Windows that plays what you wrote through a signal chain you build yourself. Most notation apps hand playback to a fixed sound set. Tonograph sends it through a pedalboard you arrange — so the phrase you just wrote comes back in the tone you actually play. RESONANCE ENGINE • 23 pedal models across 10 categories: compressor, overdrive, distortion, EQ, chorus, modulation, delay, reverb, amp and cabinet • Drag to reorder, bypass any pedal, and save your own presets • Per-track mixer with volume, pan, mute and solo • Palm mutes, dead notes, harmonics, slaps and taps change the tone, not just the volume • Every instrument is synthesised inside the app. No sample packs, no external plug-ins, nothing to download A REAL EDITOR • Keyboard-first editing, with undo and redo on every operation • Multiple tracks and multiple voices, tab and standard notation side by side • Guitar, bass, piano on a grand staff, and drums • Virtual fretboard, piano keyboard and drum pads that follow playback • Bar-length checking that tells you when a bar is short or overfull, and can fill it for you • Light and dark, following your Windows setting PLUG IN YOUR GUITAR • A tuner that follows the tuning of the track you are on • Play through the pedalboard: hear your guitar through the track's pedalboard, with the latency shown • Audio note input: play single notes and they land at the cursor. Tonograph tells from the tone which string you played, and you can calibrate it to your own strings • Audio commands: enter rests, note values and cursor moves without taking your hands off the guitar • Real-time recording: play along with a click and get a quantized score • Works with an audio interface or a microphone. The sound is processed on your PC and is never stored or sent .GP COMPATIBILITY • Opens and writes .gp files (Guitar Pro 7 and 8 format) • Also opens .gpx files (Guitar Pro 6 format) • Scores saved by Guitar Pro 5 or earlier (.gp3, .gp4, .gp5) need to be converted to .gp in Guitar Pro 8 first • Tells you plainly, before you export, if anything in your score cannot be expressed in .gp EXPORT AND PRINT • MIDI, and audio (WAV) rendered with the Resonance Engine • Vector PDF at A4 or Letter, portrait or landscape, with margins, scale, headers and page numbers • Print directly from the app WRITE WITH AI • Tonograph speaks the Model Context Protocol. Point an AI client at it and the model works on the score you have open • 26 tools cover reading, editing, exporting, undo and redo — changes land in the same undo history as your own • The model can ask for a rendered image of any range of bars and check its own work • Approval mode shows a diff of every change and waits for your yes • The server is off by default and listens only on your own PC SOFTWARE YOU OWN • One-time purchase. No subscription • Every feature works with no network connection • Nothing to sign up for and nothing to sign in to • Tonograph collects nothing about you, your PC or your scores INCLUDED Three scores ship with the app. "Scarlet Engine" and "Rosewood Letters" were written for Tonograph and are yours to use freely. "Lágrima" is Francisco Tárrega's and is in the public domain; the tablature and fingering are ours. REQUIREMENTS Windows 10 or later (64-bit). Runs natively on x64 and Arm64 PCs. The guitar input features need an audio interface or a microphone. Guitar Pro is a trademark of Arobas Music. Tonograph is not affiliated with or endorsed by Arobas Music.
